Pallet Truck Operative

An opportunity has arisen for an efficient and dynamic individual to join our team in the role of Pallet Truck Operative.  The purpose of this role is to support with the safe movement of our products within our production area.  Our ideal candidate would have experience of operating powered trucks and will be committed to maintaining and safe and efficient working environment. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Safety operating powered pallet trucks to transport goods within our production areas
  • Loading and unloading of pallets from vehicles and storage areas
  • Working a cold store environment (with temperatures ranging from 0-5 degrees Celsius)
  • Operating a handheld scanner to ensure data is accurately recorded in our internal database
  • Repetitive manual handling of products (up to 18kg)
  • Operating a clean as you go procedure to keep the dispatch area clean and tidy
  • Maintaining excellent levels of hygiene and health and safety standards
  • Reporting any damaged or missing goods, non-conformances or accidents to relevant managers to ensure appropriate action is taken 

 

Our perfect Pallet Truck Operative would have:

  • Current and in-date PPT truck license (desirable)
  • Previous experience of working in a warehouse or stores based environment would be an advantage
  • Understanding of and adherence to health and safety protocols and food hygiene standards
  • The ability to interpret and follow written and spoken instructions
  • Comfortable with a physical role where manual handling is a frequent requirement
  • Respect for others and values diversity; happy to listen and work as part of a team

The hours you would work:

A 5 on 2 off shift pattern with an average of 45 hours per week.  Working hours of 07:15-17:15 with flexibility required.


Rate of pay:

£12.00 for the first 40 hours

£15.00 after 40 hours with an opportunity to progress to next pay band (£12.69 for first 40 hours and £15.86 after 40 hours) depending on level of experience, certificates held and level of responsibility taken/quality of work

Multi-Skilled Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and diligent electrically biased Mult-Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team. The purpose of this role is to support with and facilitate the planned, preventative and routine maintenance of a range of equipment and machinery on site to ensure the smooth running of our facility.

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • To ensure all machines and equipment are maintained to the optimum standards through adequate maintenance
  • Using fault finding techniques, react quickly to faults and breakdowns, communicating clearly with affected parties and working efficiently to fix the issue.
  • Minimise the likelihood of breakdowns by keeping equipment in a good state of repair and seeking continuous improvement opportunities by looking for ways to reduce the cost impact to the business as a result of downtime and ensuring a systematic planned maintenance programme is in place
  • Communicate with production teams to advance plan for downtime on machinery for service/modification or repairs that need carrying out
  • Maintaining a stock of critical spare parts as well as ordering parts for service and repair work
  • Ensuring work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Assisting with the installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Maintaining technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and benchmarking best-practice

 

Our perfect Multi-Skilled Engineer would have:

  • Proven experience of working as a Multi-Skilled Engineer in a similar manufacturing environment
  • An electrical apprenticeship served (City & Guilds), HNC, ONC, NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition or similar
  • A strong electrical basis with mechanical skills
  • A strong awareness of and full commitment to the adherence of health and safety guidelines
  • A proactive approach with a focus on driving improvement
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Experience of using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Effective communication skills; can engage with all levels of the business with a minimum of B2 in English
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks with the ability to reprioritise whilst continuing to manage expectations
  • PLC fault finding & diagnostics experience

 

The hours you would work:

A 4 on 4 off rotating shift comprising of 07:00-19:00 and 12:00-24:00. During peak periods, shifts may change to 09:00-21:00

In-House Machine Operator and Machine Setter Trainer

An opportunity has arisen for an In-House Machine Operator and Machine Setter Trainer. The role is integral to the development of our team, focusing on training and continuous skill improvement of staff operating and setting advanced machinery. This position will play a pivotal role towards improving productivity and ensuring operational excellence across all AC Goatham packhouses.

Responsibilities may include:

1.Training and Development:

Deliver, and manage training programs for machine operators and setters on the following equipment:

  • MAF RODA: In-feed robots, in-feed - flow wrapping lines, crates de-stacking machines, palletiser, and strapping machine.
  • ULMA: Atlanta and Sienna flow packing machines.
  • EGATEC: Automated case packers.

Provide tailored training for new hires, as well as continuous professional development for existing staff.

Help with creating training materials, including manuals, checklists, and step-by-step guides, aligned with operational needs.

Evaluate operator performance and implement refresher training sessions as required.

2. Operation:

Collaborate with the Maintenance team and machine suppliers to gain an in-depth understanding of equipment capabilities and upgrades.

Support troubleshooting and provide advanced training for operators on resolving technical issues.

Work closely with the Production and Maintenance teams to identify productivity bottlenecks and propose solutions.

Ensure machinery is operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational standards.

3. Compliance and Safety:

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and certifications in the areas listed below. However, full training will be provided if required.

  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points).
  • Food Hygiene and Food Safety Level 2 or above.
  • Health and Safety (IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent).
  • Manual Handling, Machinery Safety, Machinery Safety, Machinery Safety and First Aid at Work.

About the Role

The Pre-Sizer Line Leader is responsible for managing the daily operations of a production pre-size line, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality throughout the manufacturing process. As a vital part of the production team, you will supervise packing operatives, coordinate with other departments, set up machines, and manage the schedule in line with the production plan. You will also contribute to achieving production targets, maintaining equipment functionality, and promoting a safe work environment.

Working Days: 5 days per week on rotation – this role requires flexibility in working days and hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and monitor a team of production operatives to ensure optimal performance.
  • Execute daily tasks based on the production plan.
  • Train and support team members to enhance their skills and efficiency.
  • Set up and adjust pre-sizer equipment to align with product specifications.
  • Achieve production targets, ensuring timely output and adherence to quality standards.
  • Monitor production processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Adapt processes to meet shifting production demands.
  • Collaborate with other production teams to ensure the smooth flow of raw materials and pre-sized bins.
  • Conduct regular inspections of fruit and equipment to maintain compliance with quality standards.
  • Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation.
  • Update sorting parameters in MAF’s GlobalScan 7 and Orphea systems to meet customer requirements.
  • Enforce adherence to safety procedures and regulations on the production floor.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and address potential hazards swiftly.
  • Train staff in safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Monitor equipment performance and collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve mechanical issues.
  • Troubleshoot production problems to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and clean machinery to prevent malfunctions.
  • Liaise with external suppliers, such as MAF Roda, for technical support.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize machine performance through settings adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including output, downtime, material usage, and quality issues.
  • Report progress and concerns to the Production Managers.
  • Provide regular feedback on production performance and propose efficiency improvements.
  • Create detailed production reports.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in a production environment, ideally in a QC or leadership role.
  • Experience with pre-sizing or sorting using MAF Roda systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with stock control systems is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
